Bee Party

The Bee Party is over and it was a great success! At least 4095 people discovered the pollinators and their vital work. Families, youth movements, the elderly and members of parliament took part in the activities.

The children had fun in the bouncy castle, made butterflies, watched insects, made flowerbombs, and listened to fairytales. Velt, FPS Environment, Kokopelli, and others provided adults with a lot of useful information about biodiversity. Various artists created a summery atmosphere by performing world music in the dining-tent.

This was the ideal location to enjoy the snacks depicted on the tasting pass. 1300 people bought a pass and tasted among other things bread rolls with honey, spiced biscuits, and gingerbread from Miel Maya Honing, chocolate from Choco-Story, vegetable salad garnished with edible flowers from Karikol, worldshake and tea or coffee from Oxfam, and biological strawberries from Nature&Progrès.

Without the pollinators and their work, we couldn’t consume products like these. The goal of the Party was to make people aware of the pollinators’ decline and the necessity to protect them. For the number of pollinators –especially bees- decreases rapidly, both in the northern and the southern hemisphere. That is one of the reasons why visitors could learn about African bee species.

Numerous partners and volunteers supported the Party. We would like to thank them for their efforts! Many thanks to the Belgian Development Cooperation for sponsoring the Party. The Cooperation and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural sciences support various sensibilisation projects for the protection of pollinators in the South.
