The biodiversity on earth, the richness of life, is huge. Sadly, it declines year after year. To stop this evolution, 192 countries have signed the Convention on Biological Diversity. The Convention promotes the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
All the signing countries met in Nagoya (Japan) from 18 until 29 October for the tenth Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to make strategic decisions on the implementation of the Convention.
Negotiating with so many parties about a complex subject as biodiversity is not simple. This explaines why the outcome of the COP 10 remained uncertain until the very last moment. But in the end an agreement on all dossiers was reached.
During the conference the Belgian delegation kept a blog with information about the principal themes of the COP 10 and about the negotiations.
