The Gobi Desert (June 2004)
For several weeks, three young palaeontologists of our Museum were off to China. Thierry Smith, Pieter Missiaen and Annelise Folie traveled the barren desert looking for ancestors of the modern mammals!
Maurice in Panama (May 2004)
At the end of 2003, the researcher Maurice Leponce took part in an international expedition in Panama. The aim of this project called IBISCA is to study the spatial and temporal distribution of insects in a tropical rainforest. In May 2004 he went back to Panama to present the database management system he developped for the project and to conduct a seasonal replication of the previous sampling programme. There, he could live out his passions : the search for social insects, such as ants and termites. Moreover, he discovered really unusual techniques to access the tree top. A real adventure!
We'd like to thank Matière Grise (RTBF) and nv Solvay
