A Biodiversity Reference Centre for Antarctic amphipod crustaceans
is in development at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural
Sciences, Brussels, Belgium. This centre includes specialised databases
, reference collections, and assists a network of contributing specialists (the Antarctic Ant'phipodologist Network) who are involved in the taxonomic
revision of the Antarctic amphipod fauna, and the synthesis of its geographic and bathymetric distribution
and bio-ecological traits.
The Antarctic Ant'phipodologist Network is presently composed of the following

These different specialists are involved
in the taxonomic revision of all Antarctic amphipod species (a long
term objective), each one particularly focussing on one family or group
of families (see on the above listing).
They will contribute to the development
of new, highly needed, conventional and computer-assisted identification tools: the Amphipod
volumes in the series Synopses of the Antarctic Benthos, and a specialised CD-ROM.
The preparation of the first volume of the Synopses is in progress: it
will comprise
