Library Presentation

The scientific Library of the Royal Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences has a very rich collection of books (scientific and vulgarized) and about 7000 periodicals, with 2800 still running. In total the collection covers over 15 km (10 miles) of bookshelves. The Filing Cabinet owns about 35.000 geographical, hydrological and geological maps. There is also the famous Dautzenberg collection with rare volumes concerning conchology.

Everybody is welcome to our library during opening hours. Visitors must obey the library regulations. Find out about several services to our public and about our contact persons.

The library aims at a comprehensive offer of diverse media, as demonstrated by these acquisitions. Many documents have been obtained through exchanges and gift agreements. The Museum collaborates with several exchange partners. Our links page has lots of information about national and international portal sites, weblogs and catalogues.
