Molecular Systematic Laboratory
The MSL provides a working environment for experienced researchers in the field of taxonomy, systematics and phylogenetics, with a wide array of relevant molecular tools : protein electrophoresis, DNA-cloning, DNA-sequencing, Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD, and related techniques such as AFLP), Single Strand Conformation Polymorphism (SSCP, and related techniques), microsatellite analysis, and restriction fragment analysis.
Scanning electronic microscope (SEM)
The RBINS hosts a new, completely digital environmental scanning electron microscope, Philips XL 30 ESEM offering the possibility to work in wet mode and to record digital images on diskettes or CD ROM.
Library
The scientific library of the RBINS is the largest documentary resource of natural history of the country with a vast range of books (695 368 volumes) and very specialised, often rare and difficult to obtain scientific periodicals.
