Scientific support
Scientific consultancy on biodiversity
Following the ratification of many different international environmental treaties (CBD, CITES, CMS, Ramsar, UNCCD, UNFCCC, WHC, etc.), Belgium has to comply with an increasing number of obligations.
The Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS), as National Focal Point to the Convention on Biological Diversity, possesses over a 150 years of expertise on biodiversity that can be put to the service of the public.
Within the framework of the specific convention between the RBINS and the Belgian Development Cooperation (DGDC), RBINS' scientific consultancy on biodiversity includes:
- advice on the implementation of DGDC biodiversity-related activities in partner countries,
- identification and assessment of expertise present in local institutions or organisations, identification of lacunas or strong points,
- advice on proposed, submitted or running projects financed by DGDC,
- support to DGDC for the follow-up of multilateral agreements,
- support to the decision making process of the ministerial office or the administration.
The RBINS also acts as a partner in the elaboration of synergies between international environmental conventions.
