Collaborating with other countries
In order to support the international implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the RBINS has established many partnerships worldwide.
Collaborate with focal points in other countries:- Exchange bilateral information with focal points in Europe and worldwide
- Establish scientific and technical cooperation projects with focal points in Europe and worldwide
- Participate in European regional preparatory meetings in view of international CBD meetings
- Participate in European negotiation processes through European initiatives
- Participate in global biodiversity initiatives (GBIF, Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, etc.)
Establish capacity building partnerships with developing countries:
- Develop the partnering role for the Clearing House Mechanism
- Undertake capacity building activities in the framework of the Global Taxonomy Initiative
- Facilitate and promote the consultation of the archives and collections of RBINS
- Develop education and public awareness activities together with developing countries
- Provide scientific support to Belgian administrations on issues linked to biodiversity and development
These partnerships are financially supported by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation (DGDC). The DGDC and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences have established a first five-year cooperation convention in 2003. It will be renewed in 2008.
