Activities of the National focal point
The activities of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) in the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) are numerous, since they cover the mandates of several focal points under the CBD.
In addition to its ‘core business’ as the official liaison channel between Belgium and the Convention on Biological Diversity, the RBINS undertakes many other tasks that are either requested by the government or developed at its own initiative. All activities are inter-related and complementary.
The RBINS is responsible for the bilateral communication between Belgium and the international secretariat of the CBD, the coordination of the implementation of the CBD and raising public awareness. Being the National Focal Point to the CBD, the RBINS collaborates moreover with countries all over the world.
