Cartography
Geological map of Wallonia
The update of the geological maps in Wallonia permits to collect new data and the treatment of the previous collected data since the first mapping campaign. This new geological cartography campaign is essentially based on new fieldwork. More information
Brabant Massif
The Flemish Region has ordered a new geological map of the Brabant Massif, to replace the now ten-year-old map. Five geologists from our survey are involved in this project. More information
OneGeology-Europe
The OneGeology-Europe program consists in uniting geological data and maps all over Europe at the 1:1,000,000 and make it web accessible. Through a multilingual webportal the European geological surveys will provide an interactive geological map of Europe. More information
Geoarcheology
Characterisation of hypersiliceous rocks from Belgium
In this research, outcrops of hypersiliceous rocks, ranging form Cambrium to Tertiary in age, are being mapped. The inter- and intravariability within one outcrop and between different outcrops is being studied by a multidisciplinary approach (petrography, spectrometry and diffractometry). More information
Geo-energy
ThermoMap project
The goal of the project is to map the potential of very shallow geothermal energy in Europe. Therefore, ThermoMap aims at fostering the subsoil information in order to develop shallow geothermal systems across Europe. More information
PSS-CCS
The goal of the project 'Policy Support for Carbon Capture and Storage' is to stimulate the introduction and growth of Carbon Capture and Storage as an economic activity in Belgium. More information
Geological heritage
Geopark in Vietnam
The contribution of the Geological Survey of Belgium to the preparation of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark (Ha Giang province, Vietnam) as member of the Global Network of Geoparks. More information
Geology and tourism in Belgium
The project aims at promoting tourist activities involving earth sciences. It offers descriptions and practical information about a wide range of museums, mines, underground quarries, caves and geosites. More information
Structural geology
Systematic inventory and hierarchisation of the Belgian faults
The aim of the “Faults” project is to propose a catalog of the principle faults in Belgium. The inventory will consist in a series of descriptive notes compiling the structural (geometric and interpretative) information and relating the evolution of the considerations observed in the Belgian literature over the years. More information
Sustainable Development
The Effect of Sea-level Rise on Coastal Lowlands
The paper entitled "Geological considerations on the effect of sea-level rise on coastal lowlands in particular in developing countries" presents the vulnerability of coastal lowlands with respect to a possible future accelerated sea-level rise and human-induced land subsidence. More information
GECO
The Belgian Federal Government entrusted the Royal Museum for Central Africa and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences to develop a ‘centre of excellence’ oriented towards a sustainable management of natural resources, especially those from Democratic Republic of Congo. More information
TRACE
The TRACE project aims to develop tools oriented towards the analytical traceability of heterogenite, a secondary cobalt ore in Democratic Republic of Congo. The project is conducted in common with the research centre GECO and the TASK FORCE MIRECA. More information
