Lake Baikal expedition (12-19 August 2006)
The first expedition (a total of sampling 43 stations in all three lake basins), was executed with the logistic support of the associated partners from the Limnological Institute (Irkutsk). The Finnish and Belgian partners sampled amphipods and sculpins from different depths and shores of the three sub-basins for phylogenetic and phylogeographic analysis.
Ostracods were collected with plankton nets on sandy and muddy beaches and by diving and from sediment samples taken with a dredge.
Amphipods and sculpins were collected by dredging and by scuba divers from various nearshore habitats, by deep-water trawling and by plankton nets at night-time
