  • We will use mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) as this rapidly evolving molecule offers distinct advantages for our purposes. We intend to use COI for the crustaceans and the mitochondrial control region sequence for the fishes, followed by other genes depending of the results.
  • The reliability of the reconstructed phylogenies will be assessed through simulations performed over a range of ecological scenarios and using different models of nucleotide substitution.
  • Phylogenies will be analyzed in a macroevolution framework and used as an input for the analyses of diversification. Inter-group variation as well as the driving effect of climatic change will be assessed.
  • Using simulations of ecological models, we will explore how the changes in climate may have affected the dynamics of speciation and extinction of the studied groups.
