Title: Katelijne De Kesel, exhibition developer, in the Museum since 1999

What role did you play in the mammal hall?
I’ve designed and produced the exhibit about taxidermy in the rest area. The idea was to sketch out everything happening to the animals between their death and the moment they are put on exhibition.

What are the merits of this kind of exhibition?
You can have a look at mammals in a zoo, but definitely not at so many species as you can see in this Museum. The animals in this hall originate from a bit everywhere, mostly from zoos, but also from circuses. Some are victims of an accident. But one thing is sure: no animals were killed for this exhibition.

Who does this hall appeal to?
To everybody. Many students come here to draw the animals, and our guides consider the exhibit on taxidermy as a fine introduction to their tours.
