Interview Filip De Block
Can you describe the vivarium hall in a few words?
Lots of legs! I was already wild about them, before I came to the Museum. Since I was able to turn my hobby into my job, I can live it up! And for the visitors expecting mainly dinosaurs the vivarium is always a surprise!
Do these creepycrawlies frighten the children?
You don’t have to be afraid at all! What does it matter if they're hairy, that's how cats and dogs are, aren't they? And if you do it the right way, you scare them more than they scare you!" But what scares children most is when I open a container to feed the animals. I’m sometimes doing it on purpose, when they are tapping on the windows… I can assure you it scares them!
Tips for vivarium enthusiasts?
Do you want to see the animals move? Be as quiet as possible! As soon as you tap on the windows, they’ll hide away. If you’d like to keep insects, spiders or reptiles yourself, then be careful in your choice of animals. Many terrarium animals require special circumstances and even more work.
