BiodiverCITY
Exploratory expedition
In the first room of BiodiverCITY, you go on an exploratory expedition through the city. The room is divided into seven areas that each tell a different story. You start in the street. It may not look like a suitable environment because of the concrete, the asphalt, and the glass, but it is home to several animal and plant species. Next, you go underground and discover the biodiversity in the soil. Continue walking until you reach a city garden. Here you are in charge: design a garden with as much biodiversity as possible. Nature regains free play on the fallow land. This environment enables a number of rare species to survive in the city. A railway crosses the room and shows the connection between different areas in the city, which are vital to many animals. The park is located behind the railway. It appears to be a natural environment, but as it is laid out by man, it is more artificial than it seems. The park leads to the woods. Here you discover the many services biodiversity provides us with.
Active participant
In the second room, you become an active participant. You are a citizen, a politician or planologist and you have to make choices. On interactive tables you can face several challenges: how can we make the city more green? How can we manage the waterways in a sustainable way? How do we get more birds in the city? Are you able to make the right decisions and measures in order to improve the city’s biodiversity? A last glance on the green roofs, the green walls, the eco-communities and the allotments, which are part of the solution, and you’re ready to hit the street... only to continue your explorative expedition.
