Senses! Senses! Senses!

6 October 2011 - 2 September 2012

Senses! (*) Feel free to look, and please DO touch!

This interactive exhibition focuses on human and animal senses. You see, hear, feel, taste and smell… this is a real delight. Our senses determine how we perceive the world and how we should respond to external stimuli. Find out the frequencies you can hear and if you can recognize different odours. View your taste buds under the microscope and see what places of your body are more sensitive than others.

All our senses seem to function great, but compared with animals we are actually quite limited in our perceptions. Look beyond the end of your nose and discover how some animals rely on senses that are far more developed than ours ... or even senses that we hardly can imagine! After forty sensory experiments, you will look at some animals with different eyes.

Test how well you use UV light to find nectar like a bee, and try to be like a bat catching moths with the help of echolocation. Are you as good at sniffing out drugs as the police dog Thor? Can you match chimpanzees in finding the right berries, regardless of whether the lighting is good or bad? Or have you always wanted to know what it feels like to be a snake, hunting rats using infrared heat waves? After these experiments you will look at some animals in a different light.

Preschoolers can explore their senses in this exposition too. Five activities have been specifically developed for ages 3 to 6. There are no wrong or right answers, only different sensations!

Senses! A sensory experience for families with children from 6-years, with special activities for preschoolers (3-6 years).
