Admission

Persons entitled to use the library: any person may use the resources and facilities in the Library if the User accepts this regulations. The hours of opening are posted at the Library entrance and on the library website. The library is open from Monday to Friday (except bank holidays) from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 13:30 to 16:00. The opening hours can be changed by the Library Board at any time. Users can only enter the reading room and public rooms, not the offices or the depositories.

Registration of readers

The conditions for inscription can be revised every year. A membership card is required for external users. This card costs 2.50 EUR. Payment after receipt of card. The libary card is renewable from expiration date.

Personal working at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences do not require a membership card but must be registrated as an internal user.

Conduct of readers

A person must not use any library for any other purpose than reading, consulting or borrowing the books of the library or any other library service or information service. Substances liable to cause damage may not be brought into the Library. Smoking and the consumption of food and drink are forbidden in all public areas. Persons leaving the Library may be required to present for inspection any library materials in their possession and any bags or other receptacles capable of containing library materials.

The Library accepts no responsibility for personal belongings left in the building. Any person who in the opinion of the Librarian or Officer-in-Charge seriously inconveniences other Library users, or causes damage in the Library, may be excluded from the Library for the remainder of that day and shall make good any damage caused.

In the event of loss, damage or non-return of any item, the user may be required to pay the full cost of repair or replacement of the item, in addition to a fine determined by the Library Board. Users may not modify computer software or specifications of the library computers.

Consultation Library Materials

The library of the Royal Belgian Institute of natural sciences is a research library with collections shelved in closed stacks. Items must be requested by the user and hand-delivered by a member of the library staff. Materials can not be borrowed by external users but can only be consulted on the spot. Members of the Royal Belgian Institute are entitled to borrow books and other library materials from the Library in accordance with these regulations.

Library Materials requested after 4 PM will be available the next morning of a working day.

Requests for interlibrary loan or document delivery or other services, will be accepted by the Library only on the understanding that the full costs of the service will be charged to and met by the person or body requesting the service, at rates to be determined by the Library Board. The minimum fee is 7,50 EUR.

Photocopying

Photocopying of library materials for personal use and study is possible. Requests for copying will be accepted by the Library only on the understanding that the charge will be met. Prices are 0.10 EUR for A4-formats and 0.20 EUR for A3-formats.
