On the VLIZ Marine Scientist Day 2016 student Robert Runya won the poster prize for his work on satellite remote sensing of Lake Victoria. This work is done at the ECODAM-group of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences.

Oldest Carnivoran Mammal of Europe Discovered

Researchers of our Institute have described the oldest mammalian predator of Europe. Vassacyon prieuri from Northern France is 57 million years old and is considered the earliest ancestor of modern-day cats and dogs.

5100, 5300, maybe even 6000! That’s the number of Bewick’s Swans counted the last days by the ornithologists working for the Evros Delta National Park. The previous record was set around 4500 individuals seen during the previous winter.
