post by
Charlotte Degueldre

On Friday (21st April) from 7-11pm it’s PlateoNIGHT at the Museum! Special guests: BJ Scott, Axel Hirsoux, Propaganza Urban Artists. In the Dinosaur Gallery, come and meet the team who have been working on Ben the plateosaurus for nearly a year. You are invited to bid for unique objects in our auction, watch a live demonstration from a graffiti artist collective and enjoy performances from a selection of fabulous musicians. The artists have joined the Plateoteam and donated their talent for Ben!

All profits from the party will go towards the project.

Detailed Programme:
  • 7-8.30pm: Scientific activities (guided tours of the Dinosaur Gallery every 30 mins, technicians working on casts and fossils, children’s activities ran by the Belgian Paleontology Association)
  • 7-9pm: Propaganza collective graffiti demonstation
  • 8.30pm: First part of the concert
  • 9.15pm: Auction
  • 22pm: Second part of the concert

Up for auction:

  • 4 photographs of Jesse Willems taken in the lab where Ben is being prepared
  • First day cover of the Conz collectable Dino stamps (‘Redoutables dinosaures/Geduchte dino’s 2014-2015’), personalised and signed by the artist.
  • Artworks by Proppaganza collective artists, finished during the evening
  • 5 original caricatures by Gal
  • A cast of Ben’s claw (foot)
  • A cast of Ben’s claw (hand)
  • A cast of Ben’s skull
  • 3 counter-prints of Ben's bones in the rock

We would like to thank all the artists who joined the Plateoteam with enthusiasm and generosity:

Propaganza Urban Artists

Propaganza and a plateosaurus? This unique event brings the Triassic era right up to date! Several artists have agreed to create a work in front of the audience, donating profits from their sale to the Museum. Each artist has specialised in a particular style, drawing on his/her own experience. Jump into their universe! Performing: Alexandre De Henau (Diko), Benjamin Duquenne (Amin), Julien Piloy (Trevor), Adrien Roubens, Piet Rodriguez and Spearwww.propaganza.be

BJ Scott

This honorary Belgian blends her country sound with jazz, blues, folk and rock influences to create a unique sound. She did not hesitate to come and serenade Ben, her fellow Brusseler, for an exceptional concert amongst the dinosaurs. www.bjscott.com

Axel Hirsoux

The unforgettable voice, and talent, of Belgium’s 2014 Eurovision entry returns! The ‘Mother’ singer has been busy working on new French material, a new style and a new album! (Re)discover without moderation… www.axel-hirsoux.com

Lyrics & Notes

Brussels’ night owls and Museum Night attendees will already be familiar with Maryse Demaerschalk’s warm, jazz-infused voice. She makes her return as part of a new duo, with the guitarist Geoffrey Lesire.

Qotob Trio

Qotob Trio is www.qotob.be's first fusion project. Bassel Abou Fakher, a Syrian violinist who has been living in Belgium for a year, is joined by pianist Jean-Baptiste Delneuville, and Piet Maris on the accordion. Their repertoire is a mix of Eastern and Western classical music and contemporary jazz.

Conz

The comic artist and the Museum share a long history. In 2010, one of our iguanodons was the main character in one of his comics. In 2014, he returned to design a page of dinosaur-themed collector’s stamps. Tonight, he is putting a personalised, signed first edition of the stamps and a portrait of Ben up for auction.

Gal

His gaze is more piercing than an animal’s; his pencil line more cutting than a dinosaur’s talon. Gal, the Knack’s caricaturist, is donating 5 original works to Ben’s auction.

Stéphanie Coerten

The talented comedian, member of the “Sois belge et Tais-toi” troupe, Stephanie is also one of the presenters of the Queen Elizabeth Competition and the Anima Festival. She adds another string to her bow tonight by turning her enthusiasm and humour to auctioneering.
