Dinosaur Birthday Party

Celebrate your birthday with your friends in our Dinosaur Gallery and have a day to remember! During the party you'll go through the fantastic world of the dinosaurs and follow the trail of the iguanodons to the diplodocus, the tyrannosaurus and other dinosaurs. The only way to get to your destination is to join your friends in fun hands-on tasks. Travel back in time! After the workshop, you can continue your birthday celebrations in the Dino Café (contact them on 02 640 21 60)

paleoLAB

Experiment - Discover - Play

Are you crazy about fossils, dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures? Then come along to our paleoLAB! There are 4 sessions per day at 11:00, 13:00, 14:15 and 15:30.

In this unique discovery space in the Dinosaur Gallery you will take on the role of a palaeontologist, then that of a geologist and anthropologist. You’ll get a chance to touch, try, explore and puzzle over real fossils. You can take part in digs, discover fossils or rebuild a skeleton. You can also put together a life-size stegosaurus, make a fossil print or follow  dinosaur footprints. There's much more: you can examine and classify minerals, wear a prehistoric outfit or just quietly read an interesting book about dinosaurs.

A great activity for the whole family!

V.I.P. Tour Allosaurus

A V.I.P. tour available only on Wednesday afternoons (except school holidays) from 22.09.2021 to 15.12.2021

Allosaurus were fearsome predators and carnivorous dinosaurs of the Jurassic period. During this guided tour, one of our guides will tell you about their world, their lineage and their contemporaries. You will then have exclusive access to the palaeontology lab where an authentic allosaurus is currently being prepared. You will discover the different stages of preparation of a dinosaur skeleton, and you will be able to try out the pneumatic tools with which the fossils are freed from their gangue of sediments.

You’ve visited the Museum; now get to know the scientific institution behind it! Starting with the stairs and corridors that are normally off-limits for visitors, you’ll discover the building’s amazing architecture. Then you'll see a scientist’s office and you’ll visit the depositories and their impressive collections. You’ll see that the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences is jam-packed with surprising specimens.

The visit’s route includes a lot of stairs and narrow passages and so unfortunately is unsuitable for visitors with reduced mobility.

  • Available from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 15:00
  • Occasionally we organise guided tours behind the scenes for individual visitors aged 12 and over (maximum 2 children per adult). The single rate is 10 € per person and does not include access to the permanent and temporary exhibitions of the Museum. Check out our Museum Calendar or follow us on Facebook to know the dates of these special guided tours.

Entry Fees: 
  • Young people (aged 25 and under) : Entrance ticket to the museum at group rate (per person) + guide (€45, weekdays only) per group
  • Adult groups: Entrance ticket to the museum at group rate (per person) + guide (€80, weekdays only) per group
  • Individual visitors: €10 per person (access to the museum not included)

Activities the 'Friends of the Institute' npo

"The friends of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences" is a non-profit organisation supporting the activities of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS).

This association contributes to a greater fame and influence of the RBINS, its collections, its research and its permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Activities are in Dutch or in French.

Entry Fees: 
  • The fee depends on the activity.
  • Both members and non-members may participate in the activities of the association. Non-members, however, have to pay 2 euros more per activity.
