On 18 November 2015, European leaders in marine and maritime research, governance and business have met in the European Parliament in Brussels, together with young citizens, to collaborate in building a Blue Society that prioritises a collective and sustainable management of the ocean.

Common Fin Whale in Ghent

On November 9th 2015 a whale was found on a ship in the port of Ghent. Marine mammal specialist Jan Haelters of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences is responsible for the further scientific research of the whale.

On Friday the 9th of October, Secretary of State for the North Sea Bart Tommelein flew with us to evaluate the Flinterstar situation at sea. The ship sank after a collision with another ship near Zeebrugge.

On Friday the 11th of September 2015, Bernard Tabureau took over the command of the oceanographic research vessel RV Belgica from Luc Van Tricht in Temse.


Public Consultation for Offshore Wind Farm Northwester 2

Near the sandbank Blighbank, about 46 km off the Northsea coast, NV Northwester 2 wants to build an offshore wind farm. The firm has introduced a request for the environmental permit for the construction and exploitation of the wind farm at the beginning of July.
