Current projects

GEPATAR – GEotechnical and Patrimonial Archives Toolbox for ARchitectural conservation in Belgium: this project aims to improve the management of built heritage in Belgium by integrating data from the archives of RBINS and RICH (Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage). Radar interferometry is used for ground stability risk assessment of monuments. Project funded by BELSPO (2014-2018).

H3O – The Campine: aim of this project is to create a transborder (hydro)geological 3D model of the Campine region, in cooperation with VITO and TNO. Project commissioned by ALBON (2015-2017).

H3O – Roer Valley Graben: creation of a transborder (hydro)geological 3D model of the Roer Valley Graben, in cooperation with VITO and TNO. Project commissioned by ALBON and VMM (2012-2014).

Geological models of the Rupelian & Ypresian aquicludes: updating and refinement of depth models of the Boom, Tielt and Kortrijk Formations in Belgium, based on (re)interpretation of high-quality borehole data and geophysical well logs. Project commissioned by NIRAS (2013-2014).

Greater Mesopotamia, Reconstruction of Its Environment and History: reconstructing the changing environment of the Mesopotamian alluvial plain in relation to ancient civilizations. Project funded by BELSPO (at Ghent University, 2007-2011).

RESPONSE – Reactive transport modelling of point source contamination in soils and groundwater

The RESPONSE project deals with the transport of point source contaminants in soils and groundwater. Point source contaminations result from historical or current activities and constitute a variety in forms, areas and contaminants involved (e.g. landfills, industrial facilities, storage tanks, disposal of hazardous waste).

The GEPATAR project started in September 2014 for a duration of four years and is funded by the BRAIN-be research programme of BELSPO. Aim of the project is to improve the management of built heritage in Belgium by integrating data from the archives of RBINS and RICH and by assessing the stability of monuments using radar interferometry.

QuakeRecNankai

This project aims to reconstruct past earthquakes along the Nankai Trough, south central Japan. The project combines fieldwork, advanced sedimentological and geochemical analyses, innovative dating techniques, tsunami inundation modeling and hazard assessment, with government policy support and public outreach.

H3O – The Campine

The general scope of this project is to solve existing connection problems between the Flemish and Dutch geological and hydrogeological layer cake models in the Campine Region by producing cross-border, up-to-date, three-dimensional geological and hydrogeological models of the Cenozoic deposits, based on existing (hydro-) geological data.
