ECODAM’s (Ecosystems data processing and modelling) mission is to carry out scientific research on aquatic ecosystems with a general objective of improving our understanding of the natural heritage and thus providing a scientific basis for management thereof.
The ECODAM group combines the expertise of the Remote Sensing and Ecosystem Modelling team (REMSEM), the Suspended Matter and Seabed Monitoring and Modelling team (SUMO), the Ecosystem Modelling team (ECOMOD) and the Marine Forecasting Centre team (MFC).
ECODAM consists of about 20 highly skilled scientists with a multidisciplinary background and specific expertise in:
- Physical oceanography and hydrodynamical modelling including tides, storm surge, waves, oil spills, etc.
- Aquatic ecosystems and modelling of nutrients, phytoplankton, fish larvae dispersion, jellyfish, etc.
- Sediment transport, sediment and morphodynamic processes, measurements at sea and modelling
- Aquatic optics and satellite remote sensing
- Providing support for model applications and developments at the national and international level
- Delivering services in support to federal, regional and European administrations as well as private sector activities.
ECODAM activities generally combine in situ and/or remote sensing measurements with computer modelling and are often structured in national or international research projects in collaboration with other research centres and universities.
