SAFRED: Saving Freshwater Biodiversity Research Data

SAFRED is a Belspo funded BRAIN project in which KULeuven, UGent, ULg, INBO, UNamur, BBPf, BOKU and RBINS collaborate to publish Belgian freshwater biodiversity data.

01/09/2015 to 31/08/2018

AMAZONFISH: Amazonian Freshwater Fish Biodiversity

AMAZON FISH aims to build a high quality freshwater fish biodiversity database covering the entire Amazon drainage basin. This is done by mobilizing and integrating information available in scientific literature.

AQUACROSS

Knowledge, Assessment, and Management for AQUAtic Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services aCROSS EU policies (AQUACROSS) aims to support EU efforts to protect aquatic biodiversity and ensure the provision of aquatic ecosystem services.

01/04/2015 to 31/03/2018

ODIP 2: Ocean Data Interoperability Platform

The Ocean Data Interoperability Platform (ODIP) contributes to the removal of barriers hindering the effective sharing of data across scientific domains and international boundaries. ODIP includes all the major organisations engaged in ocean data management in EU, US, and Australia.

01/03/2015 to 31/12/2020

EU-Polarnet

EU-PolarNet aims to improve co-ordination between EU member polar research institutions building on existing networks to create a resource orientated infrastructure access and usage plan. This plan would allow for the co-ordination of data and infrastructure between all the partner organisations.

01/01/2015 to 31/12/2017

TurbiNet (BELSPO, 2015-2017)

TURBINET is a network to establish long-term collaboration and data-sharing by establishing harmonized measurement protocols and data quality for ocean colour satellite data validation activities.

Case2X (ESA SEOM, 2015-2017)

The objective was to study and advance the state of the art of retrieval of water reflectances, IOPs and concentrations from ocean colour data of extreme absorbing and extreme scattering Case 2 waters, demonstrating this with MERIS historical data and preparing algorithms and processors for the near future Sentinel 3 OLCI and SLSTR sensors.

NewSTHEPS: New Strategies for Monitoring and Risk Assessment of Hazardous Chemicals in the Marine

NewSTHEPS will develop innovative approaches and novel practical techniques that address the current fundamental scientific and methodological issues related to the implementation of Good Environmental Status (GES) for Descriptor 8 of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive in national and European waters.

15/12/2014 to 15/03/2017

LATTECO: Lateral Gene Transfer as a Radically Novel Mechanism for Ecological Adaptations

LATTECO will investigate whether novel genes have been acquired by lateral gene transfer (LGT) in the ostracod Darwinula stevensoni. We chose this micro-crustacean as model species because it is of old age (several million years), is a putative ancient asexual and has a wide ecological tolerance.

01/12/2014 to 28/02/2019

Developments of methods to improve the monitoring of MSFD indicators 6 and 7

Within Europe’s Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), progress towards Good Environmental Status (GES) needs monitoring in a most time- and cost-effective way. For the GES descriptors 6 and 7, on seafloor integrity and hydrographic conditions, respectively, new integrative indicators (i.e.
