Natural Environment

- hugo.romanelli@naturalsciences.be
Hugo Romanelli is a junior researcher and physical oceanographer specializing in hydrodynamics, with a particular focus on the North Sea. He is involved in the development of ocean modeling, contributing to a better understanding of marine and coastal dynamics
Function
As the manager of the ocean model COHERENS, Hugo works on improving its accuracy and performance. With expertise in physical oceanography, he studies ocean circulation, transport processes, and environmental interactions, aiming to enhance the representation of hydrodynamic processes, particularly in the North Sea.
Research team: Ecosystem Modelling (ECOMOD)
Research theme: Science for a sustainable marine management
Professional Experience
Hugo holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Mons. Driven by a strong interest in ocean processes, he pursued a master's thesis in physical oceanography at the University of Liège. Following graduation, he joined RBINS as the manager of the COHERENS ocean model, a role he has held ever since.
